Ioannis Tragakis
Ioannis Tragakis was born in Piraeus in 1945. He is a Greek politician and freelance construction engineer.
Political Career
He was elected a member of the Parliament for the region of B’ Piraeus in the “New Democracy” party during the elections of 1974, 1977, June 1989, November 1989, April 1990, March 2004, September 2007, October 2009, May 2012 and June 2012. At the elections from November 1989 till June 2012 he was constantly elected first in votes at B’ Piraeus. In 2004, he was elected by the parliament to serve as the 3rd Vice President of the Hellenic Parliament. In October 2007 he was elected General Chairman of the Parliamentary Group in New Democracy. In October 2009 he was re-elected General Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the New Democracy. In February 2010, he was elected President of the Principles Committee. In May 2012 and June 2012, in two successive elections, he was elected A’ Vice President of the Hellenic Parliament.
Education Career
He is a graduate of the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens and Chemist (University of Athens). He speaks English.
Notable Work
He was a member of the Central Committee of the “New Democracy” party. He served as president of the Committee for Constitution Revision (2004-2007), President of the Committee for the “Honour or Politicians” (a committee holding the responsibility to check and verify pre-elections spending for candidate members of the parliament in 2004- 2007) and president of the Investigation Committee for the AGET industry case. He was also president of the parliamentary Committee for the investigation of military purchasing or the Hellenic Army (2004-2007), president of the “New Democracy” Party Committee for the Constitution Revision (2004-2007), president of the Parliamentary Committee of Friendship between the Hellenic and USA parliaments, member of the Parliamentary Committee of Friendship between the Hellenic and China parliaments and a member of the Parliamentary Committee of Friendship between the Hellenic and Russia parliaments. Additionally he was a member of the Parliamentary Committee of Friendship between the Hellenic and France parliaments, parliamentary speaker for the Ministry of the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works and the Ministry of Transport and secretary of the Hellenic Parliament. He was also dean of the Hellenic Parliament, member of the executive committee of the “New Democracy” party, president of the Technical Council of the Hellenic Parliament, president of the Hellenic Parliament Library, president of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee of the Hellenic Parliament, member of the Executive Committee of the “New Democracy” party, and president of the committee for the Ministry of the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works.
