Jan Vincent-Rostowski, also known as Jacek Rostowski – (born on 30th April 1951 in London) is a Polish and British economist, he was Minister of Finance from 2007 to 2013, Deputy Prime Minister in 2013, and has been a Member of Parliament (VII term), since 2013 for the national board of Civic Platform (Platforma Obywatelska).

Political Career[edit]

Between 1989 and 1991 he served as economic adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Leszek Balcerowicz, Between 1997 and 2001 he was a director of the Macroeconomic Council at the Ministry of Finance. From 2002 to 2004 he was advisor to the President of the Polish National Bank. He also advised the Government of the Russian Federation on issues of macroeconomic policy. Since 2004, he has served as advisor to the Board of Bank Pekao SA. He iwas one of the founders of the Center for Social and Economic Research (CASE), and has served on the board of this foundation (he resigned after taking the position of minister).

In 2007 he was the Minister of Finance in the first government of Donald Tusk. During his time in the UK he was a member of the Conservative Party. In 2009 he joined the Civic Platform. In 2009 and 2012 he was elected by the service "Emerging Markets” as "Finance Minister of the Year European Emerging Markets". In the parliamentary elections in 2011 he was elected as a Members of Parliament in the Warsaw area. In the second government of Donald Tusk he retained the post of Minister of Finance. In February 2013 he was appointed to the office of Deputy Prime Minister. In 2013 he was elected as a member of the national board of the Civic Platform.

He is the author of several publications on the issues of the enlarged European Union, monetary policy, exchange rate and transformation of post-communist economies, including books, as Macroeconomic Instability in Post-Communist Countries (Oxford University Press, 1998) and about 40 articles published in collective publications and scientific journals.

Then obtain further professional titles: 1972: BSc (Bachelor of Science) - International Relations, University College London, 1973: MA (Master of Arts) - Economy and History, University College London, 1975: MSc (Master of Science) - Economics, London School of Economics and Political Science
