Paul McCartney
James Paul McCartney was born on 18 June 1942, in Liverpool, England. He is an English musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer. With The Beatles, one of the most popular and influential acts in the history of rock music he gained worldwide fame, his songwriting partnership with Lennon is one of the most celebrated of the 20th century. After the band's break-up, he started a solo career in March 1999 and later formed Wings. McCartney has been recognized as one of the most successful composers and performers of all time, with 60 gold discs and sales of over 100 million albums and 100 million singles of his work with the Beatles and as a solo artist.

Humanitarian Causes
By supporting different artwork projects such as 21st Century Leaders or Whatever It Takes, McCartney contributes with other worldwide leaders in all fields to raise funds for charitable causes chosen by each contributing leader. McCarntey actively participates in humanitarian projects and programs such as: the International Rescue Committee, which has the aim of persuading governments and international organizations to take action to help and protect refugees, displaced people and other victims of conflict; No More Landmines which not only helps communities around the world to remove unexploded landmines but also provides support for survivors of landmine accidents; and War Child, a network of independent organizations that help children across the world through investing hope in the lives of children caught up in the horrors of war. In 2005 Paul McCartney participated in “Make Poverty History”, the biggest anti-poverty movement which called for urgent action for more and better aid, debt cancellation and trade justice. The campaign ensured that global poverty was placed higher on the national and global agenda than ever before. Although Make Poverty History came to an end in 2006, the events inspired further campaigns like the UK platform of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty.
Healthcare
Paul McCarteny is supporting numerous health centres and hospitals by helping them to raise charity money or with periodic donations. Among others, The Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes, one of the largest diabetes programs in the world for both children and adults; Children With Leukaemia, which has been helping children for more than two decades being the UK’s leading charity dedicated to fighting Britain’s biggest most affecting childhood cancer; the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London which treats children who are suffering from the rarest, most complex and often life-threatening conditions; or Keep Child Alive provides treatment to children and their families with HIV/AIDS in Africa and the developing world by directly engaging the global public in the fight against AIDS.

McCarntey supports ParalymicsGB – British Paralympic Association, a charity responsible for selecting, preparing, entering, funding and managing Britain’s teams at the Paralympic Games and Paralympic Winter Games.
Notable Actions
In June 2004, Paul McCartney he auctioned off one his bass guitars to raise money during the Silver Clef Awards for music Therapy Charity; Nordoff Robbins. That event alone raised over £8 million. The following year, he decided to use his 71st birthday to launch a fundraising initiative for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. In 2012 McCartney received a Charity award for the 2012 MusiCares Person of the Year in honor of his charity efforts as well as his astonishing musical career. This year, 2014, Paul McCartney will record a Christmas charity single with Jennifer Hudson which will be released in support of Samuel L. Jackson's cancer charity One For The Boys. Paul McCartney is also fully engaged with environmental actions and animal protection by contributing with Greenpeace, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) PETA or Animal Defenders International.
