Education

International Internship Programs

Barclays offers internship and apprenticeship programmes all around the world. Most interns begin at the `Analyst Level´unless they hold a master´s degree or have a Phd. Internships typically last for ten weeks. Currently,more than 2.5 billion people around the world are considered financially excluded – meaning that, they have no access to financial services, such as savings, bank accounts or credit. Being able to access these basic services can transform the lives of vulnerable individuals, especially young people, and gives them the opportunities to fulfil their potential. Due to this, since 2009, Barclays, introduced the CARE International UK and Plan UK which have been working together in a partnership to find solutions to this issue. Their scheme Banking on Change aims to improve the quality of life of the world’s poorest people living on less than US$2 a day. This is a collaboration of expertise of each partner to give people in seven countries the opportunity and skills to save and manage their money more effectively and access to the basic financial services they need.

Activities in the Field of Humanitarian Aid

The firm supports individuals, businesses, institutions and governments to make progress, while contributing to wider economic growth and job creation. For instance, in 2013 they managed to raised £830bn in financing for businesses and governments. In addition to that, they were able to launch an apprenticeship programme that is aimed at attracting 2,000 young people into financial services by the end of 2015.

Supporting Music and Visual Arts

Barclays is the main sponsor of the Donmar Warehouse – a 250 seat subsidised theatre in the heart of London's West End. This promotes European classics and British and American drama and musical theatre. November 2012 Barclays and the Donmar where in collaboration to create Barclays Front Row- which is a ticket initiative that gives audiences access to £10 front row seats throughout the run of each production.

Supporting Sports

Barclays Bank has sponsored the Barclays Premier League since 2001 and the current sponsorship is runs till the end of the 2015-2016 season. Additionally, The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals provides a platform for the eight best male tennis players of the season to meet in a series of matches and crown an overall champion. The Barclays, the first event of the end-of-season Fed-Ex Cup on the PGA Tour in the United States is a tournament played each year on a course rotation in the New York City tri-state area including Bethpage State Park's Black Course, home of the 2002 and 2009 US Opens. Barclays Bank also are globally involved in golf which includes the Barclays Kenya Open on the European Challenge Tour. They sponsored Phil Mickelson, who has accumulated 43 career wins to date, and with his winning of the 2013 Open Championship has now won five majors, and is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.
