João Bosco Soares Mota Amaral was born on April 15th, 1943. He is a Lawyer and currently he serves as a Deputy at the Portuguese National Assembly.

Political Career[edit]

He was elected by the electoral circle of Azores through the Social Democratic Party to serve as a deputy on the XII Legislature (2011-2015). He has been a deputy since the XI Legislature (1991-1995). He was President of the Portuguese National Assembly on the IX Legislature and Vice-President on the VII and VIII Legislatures. In addition, he was President of the Autonomous Region of Azores (1976/95), State Adviser (1982/95 and 2001/05), Vice-President of European Union´s Regions Committee (1994/95) and Member of Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly.

Mota Amaral holds a Master in Law.

Further information[edit]

He has been decorated with several medals and honours from which one can highlight the Grã-Cruz (Grand-Cross) of the Ordem do Infante Dom Henrique.
