Martial Bourquin

Martial Bourquin, born 23 July 1952, is a French politician, and is currently a senator for the Socialist Party. He is also the mayor of Audincourt Doubs.

Political Career[edit]

Bourquin was a worker at the Peugeot Motocycles Mandeure factory until he was fired for going on strike while union CGT. Bourquin was first involved in the French Communist Party but ended up joining the Socialist Party (PS) after attending the Convention for a Progressive Alternative. He succeeded Communist Serge Paganelli at the head of the municipality of Audincourt in 1997. After that, he was reelected in the next municipal elections of 2001, and also in 2008, achieving 77.69% of votes in the first round. In 2014, Bourquin was again reelected to the post of mayor. In 1992, he was elected regional councilor of Franche-Comté on a list of communist dissidents. Rallied to the PS, he was reelected in 1998. In 2004, he was Vice-president of the Regional Committee.

Substitute Pierre Moscovici legislative 2007 in Doubs, he was first elected Senator of the Doubsin September 2008. In 2014 he was reelected as senator, being the only member of the Socialist Party selected within his list of candidates. In the Senate, he chaired in 2010 a joint fact-finding Mission on the Deindustrialization of the Territories, which worked for a year on this issue. While in the opposition, he was involved against the change of status of the Post, the pension reform, the reduction in VAT recovery and the defense of public services. Martial Bourquin has been committed since 2008 to recognize individuals potential beneficiary of the EAR and who could not, despite many promises, touch the allowance at the end of long-term unemployment periods. Since October 2011, Martial Bourquin holds the position of Vice-President of the Economic Affairs Committee of the Senate. He is also Chairman of the Study Group on Industrial Affairs.

By decree of 19 January 2013, Jean-Marc Ayrault appointed Martial Bourquin to be in charge of the parliamentary mission on the issue of industrial subcontracting and to "make proposals to better contribute to the objectives of regulation between contractors and subcontractors".
