Franco Carraro
Franco Carraro has served the Italian Parliament as Senator for the Emilia Romagna region since 2013. He was born in Padua, Veneto, on December 6th 1939, and he is an Italian sports manager and politician.
Political Career[edit]
Franco Carraro was three times minister of the Italian Republic. From 1989 to 1993 he was the mayor of Rome. In 2013 Franco Carraro was elected senator of the XVII Legislature of the Italian Republic in the constituency of Emilia Romagna for Forza Italia-Popolo della Libertà political group. As a Senator, he is Vice President of the 6th Permanent Commission on Finances and Treasury.
Notable Work[edit]
During the Fifties and Sixties he was European champion in water skiing. His notoriety grew significantly in 1967, when he started to work in the football sector and became commissioner and president of AC Milan, a position that he held until 1971. Later he was three times President of the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) and from 1978 to 1987 President of CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee). Since 1982 he has been a member of the International Olympic Committee.
