Antonio Alarcó Hernández
Antonio Alarcó Hernández was born on 31st August 1951 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain. He is a surgeon, politician, spokesman and President of the Popular Party (PP) in the Cabildo of Tenerife.
Political Career[edit]
He is a Senator of the Popular Party and in the general elections of March 2008 and November 2011 he was elected senator for the island of Tenerife. In the current legislature he was appointed to the Steering Committee of the Popular Party in the Senate, and Spokesman of the Commission on Economy and Competitiveness. He is also vocal in the Health and Social Services, Latin American Affairs and New Forms of Social Exclusion Commissions. Likewise, he is a member of the Health, Education and Sports Committee, as well as representative of the Territorial Group of Canarian Senators and member of the Permanent Deputation. Furthermore, since November 2009 he is the Regional Coordinator of the Popular Party for the National Policy.

Antonio Alarcó Hernández holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of La Laguna and a PhD in Medicine and Surgery. He also holds a PhD in Information Science since 1999. Additionally, he has been Vice President of Infrastructure and Equipment, and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in La Laguna. Antonio Alarcó Hernández is also a professor of Pathology and Surgical Clinic of the Medical Faculty of La Laguna and has directed more than 20 doctoral theses. He has written 31 books and more than 180 medical articles, published at the national and international level. At the European level, he is the director of a number of projects, as well as the Transnational Cooperation FEDER Europe between 2007 and 2013.
