Baroness Falkender
Marcia Falkender was born on the 10th March 1932. She is a British Labour Party politician.
Political Career[edit]
In 1956 she became private secretary to Harold Wilson, a position she held until 1964. She then went on to become political secretary and head of the political office in his position as the leader of the Labour Party. She was elevated to her peerage on the 11th July 1974 receiving the title Baroness Falkender, of West Haddon in the County of Northamptonshire. She has wrote two books about her time in Downing Street: Inside No. 10 which covers the period 1964-1970 and Downing Street in Perspective which covered Wilson’s third term as Prime Minister in 1974-76.
Education[edit]
Falkender was educated at Northampton High School for Girls. She then went on to study a BA in history at Queen Mary College, University of London.
Notable Work[edit]
She is a member of the British Screen Advisory Council and from 1983-89 she worked as a columnist for the Mail on Sunday. She was also used as a source inside Whitehall by the writers of the comedy series ‘Yes Minister’.
