Lord Hamilton of Epsom
Archibald Hamilton was born on the 30th December 1941. He is a member of the British Conservative Party.
Political Career[edit]
Archibald Hamilton was the Councillor for Kensington and Chelsea during the period 1968-1971. He was elected the Conservative MP for Epsom and Ewell in 1978 and held it up until 2001. From 1982-1984, he was an Assistant Whip to the Treasury. In 1984 he became the Lord Commissioner to the Treasury. At the Ministry of Defence, Hamilton served as a junior minister from 1986-1993. He also spent a short period as a Parliamentary Private Secretary to PM Margaret Thatcher. From 1997 to 2001, he was Chair of the Conservative Party 1922 Committee.
During his time in the House of Commons, he was on the ‘Standards in Public Life’ committee from 1994-1995. Hamilton also had a place on the ‘Members Interests’ committee in 1995 and the ‘Standards and Privileges’ Committee from 1996-1997. He was created a life peer on the 17th June 2005 as Baron Hamilton of Epsom, of West Anstey in the County of Devon. During his time in the House of Lords, he has been on a number of EU sub-committees. From 2006-10 he served on the ‘Foreign Affairs, Defence and Development Policy’. He then moved on to the Committee for ‘Economic and Financial Affairs, and International Trade’ which he served on until 2012. He currently serves on the Committee for Economic and Financial Affairs. Lord Hamilton focuses on policies concerning ‘Defence’, ‘Economy and Finance’, ‘European Union’ and ‘International Affairs’.

Hamilton was educated at Eton College.
Notable Work[edit]
Since 2010, he has been chairman of the European Atlantic Group. He is also a Trustee of the National Army Museum.
