Lord Harris of Haringey
Jonathan Harris was born on the 11th October 1953. He is a Labour Party politician who is a member of the House of Lords.
Political Career[edit]
He was a member of Haringey Borough Council from 1978 until 2002. He then went on to lead the council from 1987-1999. He was officially made a Life Peer on the 5th August 1998, receiving the title, Baron Harris of Haringey, of Hornsey in the London Borough of Haringey. He was Leader of the London Labour Group in the London assembly from 2000-2004. During his time in the House of Lords he was on the Finance and Staff Sub Committee from 1999-2002. In 2013, he was on the ‘Olympic and Paralympic Legacy Committee’ in which he was given the role of chairman. Harris focuses upon policies concerning ‘Business, industry and consumers’, ‘Communities and families’, ‘Crime, civil law, justice and rights’, ‘Health services and medicine’, ‘Homeland security’, ‘information security’, ‘policing’ and ‘Science and technology’.
Education[edit]
Harris was educated at Haberdashers’ Askes Boys School. He then moved on to study at Trinity College Cambridge in which he became President of the Cambridge Union Society and Chair of the Cambridge University Labour Club. He was also a member of the Cambridge University Liberal Club.
