Introduction[edit]

Labhrás Ó Murchú was born on 14th August 1939. He is the Director-General of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éíreann, and a member of Seanad Éireann for Fianna Fáil.

Political career[edit]

In 1996, the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Seán Dublin Bay Rockall Loftus awarded Labhrás Ó Murchú with the Dublin City Lord Mayors Award, due to his achievements in the cultural and social realm. Murchú stood again for election in 1997 (having been unsuccessful in 1993), and was elected to the 21st Seanad. He was re-elected in 2002 and 2007.

In 2011, Murchú sought to run as an independent candidate, however withdrew his request due to controversy.

Notable work[edit]

Labhrás Ó Murchú is the Fianna Fáil Seanad spokesperson on Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht Affairs.
