October 7, 1989[edit]
October 4th, 1989 marks the forty-year anniversary of communism in the DDR. However, by this point, a groundswell of support has spread throughout the East, and communism is quickly coming to an end. The forced celebration results in more protests among the people as many of the oppressors are arrested. Many view this day as the ?turning point? to unify as Germany. German author Martin Jankowski, who lived in Leipzig during the anniversary, wrote a book about the events called ?The day that changed Germany?.
