Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin
Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin was born on December 24, 1946, in Nevers, Nièvre. She is a French politician and is formerly the Minister of Solidarity and Social Cohesion. She is also a member of the Union for a Popular Movement, which is part of the European People's Party.
Biography
From 1982 to 1988, Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin became General councilor of Maine-et-Loire. After, she was Member of the National Assembly of France for Maine-et-Loire till 2002. Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin held the Regional councilor of Pays-de-la-Loire charge from 1986 to 2007. In 2004, she was Vice-president of the Regional Council of Pays-de-la-Loire. From 2002, she was Minister of Environment, Ecology, and Sustainable Development when she launched the First National Strategy of Sustainable Development. In 2007, she was appointed as Minister of Health, Youth Affairs, and Sports till 2010. After, she was appointed Minister of Social Affairs, a position that she held for two years. After the victory of François Hollande at the French presidential election in 2012, she was replaced by Marisol Touraine. She decided not to be a candidate in the legislative elections in June 2012. She announced that she would support former Prime Minister François Fillon for the Presidency of the Union for a Popular Movement.
Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin was Member of European Parliament from 2004 to 2007. She became minister in 2007, and was reelected as a member of the National Assembly of France in 2007. During all her mandates, she focused her work on social issues: labor, employment, healthcare, disabilities, family, social security, elderly care. The French public opinion knows Mrs. Bachelot in particular for her militant struggle against discrimination relating to sexual orientation (the Same Sex Civil Union Bill 1999: same-sex marriage bill, and the exclusion of transsexualism from the list of psychiatric diseases). Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin decided to put an end to her political carrier in 2012.

She is still very active in various associations and joined the Canal + Television group as a journalist. Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin is also the author of several publications: on which she worked in collaboration with the Communist philosopher Geneviève Fraysse (Hachette Littérature 1997).

Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin holds a PhD in Pharmacy.
