Marcia Barrett
Marcia Barrett is a celebrated artist, primarily known as one of the original singers of the group Boney M. After the group split in 1990, she came back to music in the late 90’s with two solo albums, with a third one in the works, and she started her own record company in 2009. The sum of her artistic experience has labelled her as a talented and accomplished singer, performer, writer and producer.
Professional Career[edit]
Ms. Barrett moved to Germany in the late 1960s when she landed an audition in a show as a dancer, and later released a track of herself singing over “Oh Happy Day”, and becoming known around the Hamburg and Harburg area, where she was performing at the time, as a singer. She spent the next five years as a soloist, presenting her shows with live bands, singing Top 40 hits, and beginning to try her hand at song writing. The artist joined Boney M in 1975, and a year later, Boney M’s released its first album, propelling the group unto the charts all over Europe, and into international fame. She spent the next decades as an extremely successful lead and backing vocalist on all of Boney M’s recordings since 1976.
Education[edit]
Marcia Barrett was born in Sainte-Catherine, Jamaica, and moved to Great-Britain, where her mother had established herself, when she was thirteen. After finishing secondary school, she sought employment in London. Feeling unfulfilled by her day job, she looked back on her passion for dancing and singing, which had led to perform in various shows throughout her school years, and decided to start pursuing these passions and talents as a career.
