Timon Screech
Timon Screech was born on the 28th September , 1961 in the city of Birmingham. He currently serves as a professor of the history of art at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), at the University of London.
Biography[edit]
Following his graduation from Havard university he has been at SOAS and has also served as a visiting professor of Art History at the University of Chicago as well as a guest researcher at GakushuinUniversity and Waseda University in Tokyo. As well as the above positions Mr Screech serves as a permanent visiting professor at the Tama University of Arts in Tokyo, where his main research project is related to the early history of the English East India Company in Japan during the years of 1613-26.
Within SOAS’s department of Art& Archaeology, Screech’s particular interests are the history of Japanese art, Edo painting; contacts between Japan and Europe in the 18th century; history of science in Japan and the theory of art history. Mr Screech was elected to a chair in the history of art in 2006, Mr Screech also served as head of the department of the History of Art & Archaeology at SOAS.
Among his many publications Mr Screech has published work on The Secret Memoirs of the Shoguns: Isaac Titsingh and Japan, 1770-1822.

Timon Screen obtained his bachelors in Oriental Studies from the University of Oxford in 1985, and then in 1991 he completed his PhD in Art History at Harvard University.
