Francesco Profumo was born May 3, 1953 in Savona, Italy. He is a former Italy's Minister of Education from 16 November 2011 to 28 April 2013.

Professional Career[edit]
He began his professional career working in the Department of Research and Development of Ansadlo Group in Genoa between 1978 and 1984. In 1985, he moved to Torino as a researcher and associate professor at the local Politecnico. In 2003, he was named dean of the 1st engineering faculty of the Politecnico, and in 2005, he became rector of the university. On 13 August 2011, he succeeded Luciano Maiani as the president of the National Research Council (CNR) in Rome and, in a capacity of visiting professor, he has served at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Nagasaki, Prague and Cordoba.
On 16 November 2011, Prime Minister Mario Monti appointed him Minister of Education.

Francesco Profumo graduated in Electrical Engineering from the Torino Polytechnic in 1977.
Notable Work[edit]
Profumo is a member of several scientific engineering bodies and has made approx. 250 scientific contributions published in professional journals . He has received numerous awards, including honorary doctorates and honorary professorships and has sat on the board of several Italian companies. Profumo has been the Coordinator or partner of several Projects in the frame of the European Commission activities (Tempus, Comett, Joule, Human, Capital and Mobility, Alfa, European Union S&T Grant Programme in Japan, Leonardo da Vinci.
