Alan Whitehead (Labour) Member of British Parliament

Alan Whitehead was born on 15th September 1950 and is a British Labour politician. He has been an MP for Southampton Test since 1997.

Political career

Alan Whitehead initially worked in research for several charities during the 1980s and early 90s. He became a Professor of Public Policy at Southampton Institute in 1992. Throughout this time Alan took an interest in the political field and he was first nominated by the Labour Party to stand for Southampton Test in the early 1980s. He finally won a seat in 1997 and was re-elected as Labour MP for Southampton Test in 2001, 2005 and 2010.

Education

Alan studied Politics and Philosophy at Southampton University and achieved a Ph.D. in Political Science. He then worked as a Professor of Public Policy at Southampton Institute in 1992.
