Baroness Farrington of Ribbleton

Josephine Farrington was born on the 29th June 1940. She is a member of the British Labour Party.

Political Career

From 1973 to 1976 she was on Preston Borough Council. In 1977 she was elected to Lancashire County Council in which she was chair of the Education Committee. During the period 1981 to 1994 she was a member of the Council of Europe Standing Conference of Local and Regional Authorities and of its successor the Congress of the Council of Europe. She has also been a Labour Party candidate at the 1983 general election and again in 1991 at the Ribble Valley by-election. On 19th September she was made a life peer, receiving the title Baroness Farrington of Ribbleton, of Fulwood in the County of Lancashire. During her time in Parliament she served on the committee for the ‘Leaders Group on Members leaving the House’ from 2010-2011. She is currently serving on the ‘Delegated Powers and Regulatory Reform Committee’, which she has served on since 2013.
