Christine Antorini
Christine Antorini (born 23 May 1965 in Jyllinge) is a Danish politician for the Social Democrats, formerly for the Socialist People's Party. She has been Minister of Education in the Cabinet of Helle Thorning-Schmidt since 2011.
Political Career
Antorini was a member of the executive board of the Youth of the Socialist People's Party and later became a member of the executive board for the Socialist People's Party in 1988. In 1991, she became deputy leader for the party, a position she held to 1998. From 1998 to 1999 she was a member of the Folketing for the Socialist People's Party from Eastern Copenhagen electoral district. She was elected again to the Folketing in the general election in 2005, this time representing the Social Democrats and subsequently re-elected in the 2007 election and the 2011 election. She was the Social Democrats' spokesperson on education. The 2011 election brought the Social Democrats to power in a coalition cabinet led by Helle Thorning-Schmidt. Antorini was named Minister of Children and Education on the 3rd October 2011, with the inclusion of children in the Minister of Education's portfolio. In a cabinet reshuffle on the 9th August 2013, the position was again called Minister of Education. She has been a member of a number of committees, boards and think-thanks; several related to education and science. Christine Antorini was one of two Danish nominees for the EU Commissioner in August 2014
Education
She studied political science at Århus University 1985-1987 and public administration at Roskilde University between 1989 and 1994, obtaining a Candidate degree
Notable Work
She has held a number of notable roles including as a Member of the EU Information Board ('EU oplysningsnævnet') 1997-1998, a Member of New Europe’s working party 1999-2002, Chairperson of the State Football Pools Youth Board ('Tipsungdomsnævnet') 2001-2003, Member of the think-tank of the Academy for the Technical Sciences ('Akademiet for de Tekniske Videnskaber') 2001-2004, Chairperson of the think-tank of the Science and Technology Committee for research communication 2003-2004, Member of the Technical Security Board 2004, Member of the Advisory Board of Royal Greenland 2005-2006 and a Member of The German Marshall Foundation 2005-2011. She also became a Member of the Foundation for self-governing/private kindergartens ('Frie Børnehavers Fond') 2006-2011, a Member of VL 13 (Danish Management Society Group 13) from 2006, the Ambassador for Danish People's Aid 2010-2011 a Member of the management committee of Roskilde Festival High School 2011 and a Member of the voluntary school management committee of Grundtvig High School 2011.
She headed the secretariat of an independent office for consumer information between 1999 and 2003, was anchor-woman in Danish Radio 2003-2004 and worked for the Union of Commercial and Clerical Employees as part of Danish Confederation of Trade Unions, 2004-2005.
