Christos Staikouras
Christos Staikouras was born in Lamia in 1973. He is a Greek politician and professor of finance. Since 2007 he is an MP of the New Democracy political party, in Fthiotida.
Political Career
From June 2012 he was appointed as Alternate Minister of Finance. During his parliamentary activity he was Alternate Head of Economic Policy of Nea Demokratia, member of the Standing Committees on Economic Affairs, Financial Statement and General Balance Sheet of the State. He is also a member of the working group of Economic and Social Policy of European People’s Party.
Education Career
He holds a Bachelor's degree from School of Mechanical Engineering (National Technical University of Athens), and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London and a PhD in Banking, from the Department of Banking and Finance, Cass Business School, City University.
Notable Work
He was Assistant Professor of Finance at the Athens University of Economics and Business. He was a part time academic staff member at the Hellenic Open University (2004-2007), Lecturer at the Athens University of Economics and Business (2002-2006), Visiting Professor at the Universities of Thessaly (2004), Athens (2002), and City (1999). He has staffed places of high responsibility in recognized prestige financial organizations, such as Eurobank (2000-2004) and the Bank of England (2000). He was a member of the Central Committee of ND (2004-2007) and of the Central Committee of ONNED (ND youth organization) (1998-2001). He was an elected representative of the student union of the National Technical University of Athens and responsible for ND students’ movement DAP-NDFK (1993-1996). He was a founding member of the Committee of the Hellenic Centre for the Promotion of the European Completion. He has published many scientific articles in Greece and abroad and has participated in many scientific international conferences presenting his papers.
