Gerasimos Giakoumatos
Gerasimos Giakoumatos was born in Athens in 1949. He is a Greek politician and Pathologist.
Political Career
He was elected as MP (ND) for Athens B in the general election of 1993, but lost his seat on the 22-03-1995, following a ruling by the Electoral Court that he had not qualified to stand for election since he had resigned his post as Deputy Governor of the Social Security Institute (IKA). He appealed to the European Court. He was re-elected as MP (ND) for Athens B in the general elections of 1996, 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2009. He was a member of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs and the Special Standing Committee on Technology Evaluation.
Education Career
He studied Medicine at the University of Athens. He speaks Italian and English.
Notable Work
He joined the ND in 1978 and was a member of the ND Local Organisation for Chalandri since 1980; he was also elected as its Chairman in 1983. He was a former Alternate Secretary of the ND Medical Doctors Organisation. He was elected onto the boards of the union of the Union of Doctors Working in Hospitals in Athens and Piraeus (EINAP) in 1985, and the Medical Association of Athens in 1986 (ISA). He was elected vice-president of the ISA in 1988. He also served as deputy governor of IKA (a Social Security Organisation) (1991-1993). Elected onto the ND Central Committee on 24 April 1994 at the 3rd Party Conference. He has also served as Chairman of the party’s Parliamentary Work Group on Social Affairs.
