Heather Wheeler
Heather Wheeler is a British Conservative Party MP for South Derbyshire. She was born on 14th May 1959.
Political career
Heather was elected as Councillor of Wandsworth at the age of 22. In 1986 Heather was elected onto South Derbyshire’s District Council and became the Leader of the Council in 2007. In 2010, Heather achieved a successful election victory gaining 45.5% of the votes for South Derbyshire. Heather is a member of the Standards and Privileges Select Committee. She is also a member of several All Party Parliamentary Groups including the APPG on Motors, Manufactures and Traders; the Food and Drink Manufacturing Industry; and Insurance and Financial Services; and the APPG Beer Group. Heather is also chairman of the Local Government APPG and was elected onto the Communities and Local Government Select Committee in April 2011.
Notable work
Working to bring a new college to South Derbyshire has been one of Heather’s early successes. She wants to ensure that young people are given the opportunities to thrive.
