José Vicente González Bethencourt

José Vicente González Bethencourt, born in 1948, is a Spanish senator representing the Spanish province of Tenerife (Canary Islands) in the 10th Congress of Deputies. Gil Garíca is a member of the Spanish Socialist Worker’s Party, Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE).


Political Career

From 1995 to 1999 González Bethencourt was the spokesman of PSOE on the city council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. After that and until 2003, he was the president of the PSOE in the Cabildo Insular of Tenerife. From 2003 to 2007, he was a councelor within the PSOE. In the Spanish Senate, José Vicente González Bethencourt is the Second Vice-President of the Committee on Health and Social Services. He is also the second Secretary in the General Committee of Autonomous Communities, and the deputy speaker in the Committee on Petitions. Finally, González Bethencourt, is a member of the Commission of Interior, Commission of Justice, and the Joint Commision of Committees of Interior, Education, and Sport, and Industry, Energy and Tourism.


Education

González Bethencourt has a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Cádiz. From 1972 to 2013, he was the section chief of General and Digestive Surgery in the Hospital in La Candelaria. In that period of time he was also a profesor of Surgery at the University of La Laguna. Furthermore, in 1992 he persued an MBA in Business Administration and Management.
