The Instituto Cervantes, as the promotor of spanish language all around the world, has created a free-to-use virtual environment called AVE (the spanish initials of Spanish Virtual Classroom), where anyone in any part of the world can learn the language in a very dynamic and flexible way. As it’s structured in many different levels and subjects, you can easily choose your own schedule and learning speed, concerning the needs of each person. All the teaching materials of this system are collated in one database called AVE Global, available for all kinds of navigator and operating system, and divided in levels A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). One of the most useful ways of improving your spanish via AVE is the ‘autonomous learning’, where you can establish your own rhythm of study and you can evaluate your level any time you want. If you need someone to look at your work, you can choose the ‘supervised learning’ option, where you can attend personal classes or have an online tutor. You’ll also be able to communicate with other spanish students all around the world, and to participate in forums and blogs. Another advantage of AVE is that the student can choose between a full course of spanish or any specific subject in which he wants to deepen. The little ones are also not forgotten in this initiative. AVE, in association with the Ministry of Education of Alberta (Canada), has developed an online course for children under 12, including levels A1 and A2 of the CEFR. Of course, if you prefer to take classroom courses, you can apply for any of their study centers in Spain. AVE will help you with any academic information you might have, such as dates and learning modalities of these courses.
