Georgios Kontogiannis
Georgios Kontogiannis was born in Vartholomio in 1962. He is a Greek politician and Journalist.
Political Career[edit]
He was elected MP in Ileia with ND in the elections of 2004 and reelected in the elections of 2007 and 2009. Between 2004-2007 he was the secretary of the standing Committee on Production and Trade; Member of the Special Standing Committee.
Education Career[edit]
He studied at the Economic Department of Law Faculty, in University of Athens. He speaks English.
Notable Work[edit]
Prior to his election he was a political editor in ERT and in the newspapers “Apogevmatini”, “Eleftheros” (1988-1933) and “Estia” (1984). In the years 1999-2002 he was chief editor of “apogevmatini tis Kyriakis”. He was writing articles for the newspapers “Patris” and “Proti” in Pyrgos (2002). He worked for “Express” newspaper with an economic content, for monthly magazines and local radio stations. He also worked for the newspaper «Nea Poreia” published by ND (1980- 1981). Since 1980 he has been an associate of ND Press Office and since March 1997 he has been one of the staff executives. He joined ONNED (ND Youth Organisation) in 1976 and DAP-NDFK (The New Democracy Students΄ Movement) of the Economic Department, Law Faculty, University of Athens (1983-1988). He is one of the authors of the books series: “Time of Greeks”, “Hellenism and Orthodoxy”. He also wrote a book entitled “Ilia in Greece of Europe and growth”. He is member of the Union of Daily Newspapers΄ Editors of Athens and of the Association of Konstantinople descendants in the district of Ilioupoli, Athens.
