Ioannis Dimaras (Greek: Ιωάννης Δημαράς, born on January 6, 1944 in Athens) is a Greek politician and journalist.

Political Career[edit]

He was first elected as an MP in 1996 and re-elected in 2004, 2007, 2009.

In the municipal elections of 2002 and 2006 he was elected as a Councillor in the Municipality of Athens.

He is the President of the Panhellenic Citizen Chariot, a left-wing anti-austerity party, which he founded along with the MP Vasilis Oikonomou in 2010.

On 17 April 2012, an election cooperation agreement with the conservative anti-austerity party Independent Greeks was reached. The leader Giannis Dimaras was elected with the Independent Greeks in the second electoral constituency of Athens. .

Education[edit]

He studied Law at the University of Athens.
