Joan Saura i Laporta

Joan Saura i Laporta, born 24 April 1950 in Barcelona, is a Spanish senator elected by the Parliament of Cataluña for the 10th Congress of Deputies. Saura i Laporta is a member of Iniciativa per Catalunya Verds (ICV). In the Spanish Senate, this political party is within the Parliamentary Group Entesa Pel Progrès Catalan (GPEPC).

Political Career

From 1979 until 1987 Saura i Laporta was a city councillor on the council of L’Hospitalet. Also, in 1979 he was first appointed Provincial Deputy of the Province of Barcelona, position he held until 1995. At regional level, Saura i Laporta was first elected as MP for the Catalunyan Courts in 1988, a position he held until 2010. He was also director of Interior, Institutional Relations and Participation in the Generalitat de Catalunya from 2003 to 2010. Since 2000, Saura i Laporta has been the president of the ICV. Nowadays in the Spanish Senate, Joan Saura i Laporta is a spokesman for the Commission of Justice, in the Committee on Environment and Climate Change and the Latin American Affairs Committee. He is also a member of the General Committee of the Autonomous Communities.

Education

Joan Saura i Laporta is an engineer in Industrial Chemistry.
