Kyriakos Gerontopoulos

Kyriakos Gerontopoulos was born in Alexandroupoli, Evros in 1956. He is a Greek politician and Doctor.

Political Career[edit]

For the period 1984 -1989 he served as Deputy (New Democracy) at the European Parliament. He was also a member of the following committees a) Education and Culture, b) Regional Development c) Agriculture and Livestock Farming d) European Parliament – Cyprus Affairs.
Rapporteur of the “Alternative Power Sources” and the “Minority Languages in Europe” reports. 
From 1989 to 1993 he was elected member of the Greek Parliament for the Evros constituency three times. 
He served as president of the Collaboration Committee of the Greek and the Russian Parliament. 
He was president of the Greek Parliament’s Library, parliament’s representative at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe – OSCE.  Additionally, he was Member of the parliament committee for the European Affairs. 
He was rapporteur at the Parliament Assembly for the Ratification of the Maastricht Treaty. 
In 1993, however, he resigned as a member of the Greek Parliament and joined the Political Spring party, where he was the secretary of the Central Committee and Press Spokesman. 
For the period 2007-2009, he was re-elected as member of the Greek Parliament for the Evros constituency with the New Democracy party. 
He was member of the Committee on European Affairs and of the Committee on Social Affairs. 
He participated at the meetings of the Greek with the European Parliament as the head of the Greek delegations. He was rapporteur at the Parliament Assembly for the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. During May 2012 and June 2012: He was elected as the first in votes, as member of the Greek Parliament from the Constituency of Evros.

Education Career[edit]

Graduate from School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He pursued his PhD Degree in 1993 at the Medical School of Athens University.
