Franco Frattini is a prominent Italian politician and president of the Italian Society for International Organization (SIOI) as well as the Foundation Alcide De Gasperi since 2012.

Political Career[edit]

Franco Frattini has had a long political career. He is an Italian politician who served as a Junior Minister in the Berlusconi and Dina cabinets between 1994 and 1996. He was then elected to the constituency of Bolzano-Laives in northern Italy where he served until 2001. During his time in parliament he also served as City Councillor for Rome and as Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for the Supervision of Intelligence. Under the second Berlusconi administration Frattini was foreign minister between 2001 and 2004. He left this post to take up the position of European Commissioner for Justice Freedom and Security. After the election of 2008 he returned to the position of Foreign Minister where he served until the end of Berlusconi's fourth cabinet in 2011. More recently he has worked as a member of the Prime Ministers Commission for Constitutional Reforms. He is also currently President of the ICD Organization for Youth Education & Development.

Education[edit]

After graduating with a Law degree in 1979, Frattini was appointed State Prosecutor in 1981 and quickly rose to State Advocate to the Attorney General’s Office in 1984. 1984 – 1986 he served as Judge to the Piemonte Regional Administrative Court (1984-1986) and was appointed as a member of the Italian Supreme Administrative Court in 1986.
