Alain Rousset
Alain Rousset (born February 16, 1951) is the Socialist Party President of the Aquitaine region of France, and a member of the National Assembly of France, representing the seventh constituency of Gironde.
Political Career[edit]
Rousset entered politics in 1988 when he was elected to the Gironde Municipal Council and in 1994, he became the Vice-President of the Council.
In 1989, Rousset was elected Mayor of Pessac. His two terms in Pessac between 1989 and 2001 were marked by his participation in 1990 of the creation of Bordeaux Unitec Association to promote the establishment of a science and technology friendly city. In 1990, he also founded the International Festival of Film History Pessac, in partnership with the journalist and historian Jean Lacouture.
In 1998, Rousset was elected President of the French Socialist Party in the Aquitaine region and in 2007 he was elected to the French National Assembly for the seventh district of Gironde.
During his tenure as a member of the National Assembly, Rousset has been fighting for environmental sustainability in the Aquitaine region.
Education[edit]
Rousset studied at the Political Institute of Paris in the early 1970's.
