Catalina Monserrat García Carrasco, born 22 June 1969 in Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona), is a Spanish senator representing the Spanish province of Jaén (Andalucía) in the 10th Congress of Deputies. García Carrasco is a member of the Spanish People’s Party, Partido Popular (PP).

Political Career[edit]

Catalina Monserrat García Carrasco began her political career in the New Generations of the People's Party in 1995. That same year, she was named as a candidate of this political formation in Jimena (Jaén) for the municipal elections, after which she became the first woman to become mayor of this town. In 1999 she became part of the opposition in the city of Jimena; however, she was reelected as mayor in 2003, a position she renewed after the municipal elections of 2007. Currently, she is a member of the opposition, as well as president of the People's Party in Jimena, and senator of PP-Jaén. In 2011 she was elected PP spokesman in the Provincial Council, until 2012 when she was named the first candidate in the list for the Andalusian Parliament, for the province of Jaén, resigning her seat on the county council. She held that position within the autonomous parliament of Andalucía until she was named senator. At present, her political activity is basically centered in the Senate. In the Spanish Senate, García Carrasco is the Second Vice-President of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Parliamentary Control of the Corporation of the Spanish Radio-Television, Radio Televisión Española (RTVE), and its subsidiaries. She is also a member of the Commission on Regulation and the Commission of Local Institutions.

Catalina Montserrat García Carrasco has a degree in Nursing.
