Julián Lanzarote Sastre

Julián Lanzarote Sastre was born on 28th October 1951, in Salamanca, Spain. He is a Spanish politician, a member of the Spanish Senate and a member of the Popular Party (PP).

Political Career[edit]

Julián Lanzarote Sastre was part of the PP lists in the elections of 1987 in which, as a counselor, he was part of the city government. The Popular Party lost in the elections four years later but in the general elections held on June 6, 1993, Julian Lanzarote was elected Senator. Previously, in the municipal elections of 1995, he headed the list of the Popular Party in the city, obtaining an absolute majority and was elected mayor of the city on June 17, 1995, a position that he successfully defended in the elections of 1999, 2003 and 2007, provided by an absolute majority.

In 2010 he announced that he would not run for Mayor in the municipal elections of 2011 but in December 2011 was appointed as Senator. He was provincial Secretary of the PP of Salamanca from 1991 to 1993 and President of the Popular Party of Salamanca from 1993 to 2008. He was also appointed Honorary President of the Popular Party of Salamanca in 2008 and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Popular Party of Salamanca, as well as a member of regional and national boards of directors.

Education[edit]

He graduated in Law from the University of Salamanca and worked at the Chamber of Commerce of Salamanca.
