Manuel Maria Chaves Gonzalez

Manuel María Chaves González is a Spanish politician and member of the Spanish Socialist Worker's Party (PSOE). He was born in Ceuta on July 7th, 1945.

Political Career[edit]

Manual María Chaves González started his political career as Congress deputy in the General Elections that took place in 1977, representing Cádiz. He held this position until 1990. From 1987 to 1990, under Prime Minister Felipe González, he served as Minister of Work and National Health Service. In 1990, he became president of JunAndalucia, position that he held until 2009. From 1994 to 2010, he was the Chairman of the Andalusian PSOE party and from 2000 to 2012 he was also the Chairman of the national PSOE. In April 2009, Prime Minister Zapatero designated Chaves as Third Vice President of the Government(2009-2011) and Minister of Territorial Policy (2010-2011). The General Elections that took place in 2011 were won by the People's Party, plaing Mariano Rajoy in office. Chaves was elected Congress deputy, a position that he still holds nowadays.

Education[edit]

Manuel María Chaves graduated in Law and holds a doctorate in the same field.
