Roberto Calderoli
Roberto Calderoli (born in Bergamo on April 18th 1956) is an Italian politician. He is a member of the Lega Nord political party and vice-president of the Italian Senate.
Political Career[edit]
He started his political experience with the Lega Lombarda, a precursor of the federated Lega Nord, of which he was president in 1993 and national secretary from 1995 until 2002.
From 1990 until 1995 he sat on the town council of Bergamo, and since 2002 he has been the coordinator of the national secretariat of the Lega Nord. He was an MP in the Chamber of Deputies between 1992 and 2001, as a representative of the Lega Nord, and also held the presidency of the Commission for Social Affairs.
In the 2001 elections he was elected to the Senate of Italy. He then became the vice-president of the Senate until July 2004, when he was appointed Minister for Institutional Reforms in the place of Umberto Bossi, the longtime leader of the Lega Nord. In 2005 he wrote a new electoral law based on proportional representation with a strong majority premium rather than plurality voting system, which was first introduced in Italy in 1994 by a referendum. He was appointed for the second time as vice-president of the Senate from 2006 until 2008 and for the third time in 2013.

He obtained a degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1982 and a Specialization in Maxillofacial Surgery.
