Stephen Cottrell

Stephen Cottrell was born on 31st August 1958 in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. Since 2010 he is the Bishop of Chelmsford.

Political Career[edit]

He joined the House of Lords at the beginning of 2014.

Education[edit]

He studied at Belfairs Academy and the Polytechnic of Central London. After studying at St Stephen's House, Oxford, he was ordained in 1985.

His ordained ministry began as a curate at Christ Church, Forest Hill, after which he was priest in charge of St Wilfrid's, Chichester then Missioner in the Wakefield diocese. He has worked also as Canon Pastor of Peterborough Cathedral, and as part of Springboard, the Archbishop of Canterbury’s evangelism team.

He has written widely on evangelism, spirituality and discipleship.
