The Baroness Byford DBE
Hazel Osborne Byford was born on the 14th January and is a Conservative member of the House of Lords.
Political Career[edit]
Baroness Byford was appointed Peerage for Life as a member of the House of Lords on the 15th October 1996, after receiving her DBE in 1994. She is known as Baroness Byford, of Rothley in the County of Leicestershire in 1996. She has held a number of positions on Committees within the House of Lords. These include: The Draft Marine Bill (Joint Committee) in 2008, the EU Sub-Committee D on Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment from 2010-12 and again in 2012 and 2013 when the name was altered to Agriculture, Fisheries, Environment and Energy. Her focus in The House of Lords has been: Agriculture, animals, food and rural affairs; Communities and families and Energy and environment.
Education[edit]
Baroness Byford received an Honorary Doctorate of Science (Hon DSc) from Nottingham Trent University in recognition of her outstanding contribution and commitment to agriculture and rural life.
Notable Work[edit]
Baroness Byford has had a long political career starting from when she joined Leicestershire County Staff in 1961. She left this role in 1976 and joined the Transport Users Consultative Committee in 1989 and subsequently the Rail Users Consultative Committee in 1994. She is currently the Lay Cannon for Leicester Cathedral and President for Leicestershire Clubs for Young People. She also held the role of Underward for the Worshipful Company of Farmers from 2011-12.
