Andrzej Biernat
Andrzej Biernat was born on 11th September 1960 in Urzędów (a village in the Lubelski region in the south-east part of Poland). He is a Polish politician and since 2013, he has been the minister for sport and tourism.
Political career[edit]
Between 1997 and 1999, Andrzej Biernat was a member of Ruch Odbudowy Polski(Movement for Reconstruction of Poland). He later joined the Platforma Obywatelska (Civic Platform). In 2005 he was elected to Polish Parliament. He was Deputy President of the parliamentary Physical Education, Sport and Tourism Committee and President of the Standing Subcommittee for the Preparation of Poland for the Organisation of European Football Championship “UEFA EURO 2012”. He was President of the Subcommittee for the Preparation of Poland for the 2014 World Volleyball Championship and 2016 European Handball Championship. Since 2013 (after the reorganisation of Donald Tusk's government) he has been the minister of sport and tourism.
Education[edit]
Biernat graduated from the Higher School of Pedagogy in Częstochowa and studied a postgraduate course at the Academy of Physical Education in Poznan, specialising in sports management.
