Asia-Euro Foundation
One of the mains goals of the ICD Program on Cultural Diplomacy in Europe is to improve relations between Europe and other regions, and to support Europe in playing a more influential, constructive role in addressing global challenges. How can we do this?
A key example of European cultural diplomacy are the programs of the Asia-Euro Foundation. The Asia-Euro foundation currently runs four main programs designed to encourage the exchange of knowledge, information and experience on issues related to the role of culture in society, the most significant being the ASEF Creative Network, which makes an annual call for proposals created to encourage new opportunities for dialogue and cooperation between cultural and artistic networks across Asia and Europe.
This program represents a great opportunity to strengthen connections between the two regions and improve mutual knowledge, focusing on special and definite collaborative projects that create effective bi-regional partnerships and long-term co-operation among networks. The ASEF Creative Network supports joint endeavors of these networks with a result-oriented approach (e.g. travelling exhibitions, mapping and surveys, education/training programs, online platforms, etc.). The program also responds efficiently to the recommendations of the Culture Ministers of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), set out at the 2nd ASEM Culture Ministers' Meeting in 2005, which called for “further enhanced networking among professionals in the cultural field, through existing professionals’ network.” Its mains goals are supporting and encouraging the development of long-term activities between the most important networks from Asia and Europe, and on creating specific platforms for cooperation and dialogue within the cultural and artistic fields of the two areas. Overall the program represents a great opportunity to improve intercultural understanding between different cultural groups and nation states, as well as increase cultural exchange between Europe and Asia.
