Baroness Hamwee

Sally Hamwee was born on the 12th January 1947. She is a Liberal Democrat politician.

Political Career[edit]

Hamwee’s first foray into politics was her position as a councillor on the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. She joined the House of Lords on the 6th June 1991, receiving the title Baroness Hamwee, of Richmond upon Thames in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. In 2000 she became a member of the London Assembly, a role she held up until 2008. In the Lords she became the spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats on regional and local government, a position she held up until November 2009. She then became the spokesperson on Home Affairs.

During her time in the UK parliament she has worked on a number of committees. The first committee she worked upon was the Refreshment Sub-Committee, a position she held from 1991-1994. She is currently working upon the Extradition Law. Hamwee focuses on policies concerning ‘Asylum, immigration and nationality’, ‘Crime, civil law, justice and rights’, ‘Housing and planning’, ‘Local government’, ‘Parliament, government and politics’, ‘Theatre’.

Education[edit]

She was educated at the Manchester High School for Girls.
