Bernadette Bourzai

Bernadette Bourzai (born May 28 1945) is a French politician and Member of the Senate of France representing the Department of Corrèze. She is currently a member of the Socialist Party of France.

Political Career[edit]

Before being elected to the Senate, Bourzai held many local political offices. She served on the Égletons Municipal Council, Corréze General Council, and the Limognes Regional Council. Bourzai was also elected Mayor of Égletons in 2001.

In 2004, Bourzai was elected to the European Parliament, representing Loire. In Brussels she sat on European Parliament's Committee on Regional Development. She also helped chair many Parliamentary Cooperation Committees for delegations to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan and other Asian countries.

Bourzai was elected to the Senate of France for the Department of Corréze in 2008, resigning her European Parliament seat. She currently serves as the Secretary of the Commission on European Affairs and is also a member of the Commission on Cultural Affairs.

Education[edit]

Bourzai attended the University of Clermont-Ferrand and received a degree in History and Geography in 1971. He then went on to earn a Master's in Geography in 1972.
