Carlo Galli

Carlo Galli was born on December 7th 1950 in Modena, Emilia Romagna. He is a Italian politician of Partito Democratico (PD), an academic professor and a philosopher.


Education[edit]

In 1972 Carlo Galli has a Masters degree in Philosophy at University of Bologna with Felice Battaglia. In 1978 he started to work as an academic professor of Political Theory History at the University of Bologna. From 1985 to 1990 he was a member of the editorial staff of the Italian magazine "il Mulino", and from 2006 to 2012, he was a member of its management staff. In 1987 Carlo Galli was one of the founders of the Italian magazine "Filosofia Politica". Since 2009 he has been President of the Fondazione Gramsci Emilia-Romagna. He has worked with a lot of Italian, European and American Universities and has collaborated with Italian cultural and political periodicals and newspapers. He has published a lot of essays about Machiavelli, Hobbes, Weber, Tönnies, Arendt, Strauss, Voegelin, Löwith, Jünger, Schmitt e Vitoria, and Frankfurt School philosophers.


Political career[edit]

In the general elections of 2013 he was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies for the Partito Democratico for the district of Emilia Romagna. Additionally, from May 2013 he has been a member of the Defence Commission. From May 2013 to February 2014 he was a member of the Foreign Affairs Commission.
