Davor Božinović was born on December 27, 1961, in Pula. Božinović is a Croatian diplomat and formerly held the position of Minister of Defence in Croatia. He currently serves as an observer in the European Parliament for Croatia.

Political Career[edit]

Božinović started his political career in 1987, when he started to work as an adviser in the Republic's Secretariat for Defence of Croatia. In the 1990s, he worked in various governmental institutions in the Balkan area- such as the Croatian Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served as Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Serbia and Montenegro for two years from 2002 to 2004. Following his tenure as an Ambassador, he was appointed as Head of the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia in 2004. From 2005 to 2008, he served as Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the NATO. In September 2008, he was appointed State Secretary for European integration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MVPEI) and in July 2009, as State Secretary for Political Affairs at the same ministry. From December 2010 till December 2011, he held office as the Croatian Minister of Defence. Apart from his political work, Božinović is a political scholar and the author of the book "Mutual Transition NATO - EU - Southeast Europe" (2010). He also co-authored the book "NATO - Euro-Atlantic Integration" (2008). Furthermore, he wrote many scientific papers, participated as a speaker at many renowned universities and scientific institutions, such as the "Woodrow Wilson" International Scientific Center; the German Marshall Fund; Johns Hopkins University, Washington and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. Božinović also works as a lecturer. He lectures at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Zagreb, at the MFAEI Diplomatic Academy and at the "Ban Josip Jelacic" War College.

Davor Božinović graduated from the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Zagreb where he obtained a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral Degree. While attending the University of Zagreb he also acquired the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in International Relations and National Security.
