Didier Reynders
Didier Reynders is a Belgian politician of the French-speaking Liberal Party (MR), he was born on 6 August 1958 in Liège (Belgium). He is Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and European Affairs since December 2011.
Political Career[edit]
Didier Reynders started his political career in 1988 as a councillor in Liège. He held this position until 1995. Meanwhile, in 1992, he got elected to the Belgian Chamber of Representatives for the MR. In 1999, he became Belgian Minister of Finance in the Government Verhofstadt 1. When his party fellow, Louis Michel, went to the European commission in 2004, Didier Reynders became Vice-Prime Minister. In that same year he got elected as party leader of the MR. He stayed party leader until 2011. He held the position of Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in four consecutive governments between 2007 and 2010. In 2011, he replaced Steven Vanackere as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and European Affairs in the Government Di Rupo. Didier Reynders kept this position after the national elections on May 25th 2014, in the Government Michel.
