Hannelore Kraft

Hannelore Kraft was born on the 12th of June 1961 in Mülheim an der Ruhr. She has been a member of the German Federal Council for the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) since 2010. She has been the Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2010. She was a member of the Federal Council in 2001 and 2002 and a deputy member from 2002 to 2005.

Political career[edit]

Before her political career, she worked as a Management Consultant and Project Manager at the Centre for Innovation and Technology in Mülheim an der Ruhr. She has been a manager of the SPD since 1994. Since 2000, she has been a member of the Federal Council of North Rhine-Westphalia. As of 2007, she has been the state chairman of the SPD in North Rhine-Westphalia and the deputy chairman of the SPD from 2009. Between 2001 and 2002 she served as the Minister for Federal and European Affairs and she represented the state of North Rhine-Westphalia to the Federal Government. Subsequently, from 2002 to 2005 she was the Minister for Science and Research of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Education[edit]

Kraft graduated from German secondary school in 1980 with the Abitur (A-Level). Between 1980 and 1982 she did bank clerk training. Subsequently, between 1982 and 1989 she studied economics at the University of Duisburg. From 1986 to 1987 she studied in London. Moreover, she also did internships in France and Switzerland.
