Ioannis Kourakos

Ioannis Kourakos (Greek: Ιωάννης Κουράκος; born on November 20, 1966 in Piraeus) is a Greek politician, technical engineer and professor at the TEI Chalkidas and Piraeus.

Political Career[edit]

In 1983, he was elected General Secretary of O.N.N.E.D. in Amfiali. In 1984, he was elected president of Local New Democracy Amfiali. In 1990 he was elected President of the Prefectural Committee of ND the Piraeus B constituency, a position he retained until 1998 In 2007 he was elected Deputy Secretary of former MPs of the New Democracy. From 1993 to 2012, he participated in the Central Committee of ND

In 2004 he was first elected as a Member of the Greek Parliament in the second electoral Constituency of Piraeus with the New Democracy Party, a position he held until 2007.

On February 24, 2012, he left the New Democracy Party to found the Party of Independent Greeks (AN.EL.), along with Panos Kammenos.

In the national elections in May and June 2012, he was elected as an MP to the second electoral constituency of Piraeus with the AN.EL., and was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Parliamentary Group of the Party.

In December 2012, he became independent when he withdrew from the movement of Panos Kammenos.

On March 21, 2013, along with Christos Zois and other retired members ofAN.EL. , they founded a new political party, entitled the New Reform Radical Reconstruction.
