Mary Glindon

Mary Theresa Glindon (born 13 January 1957 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland) is a British Labour Party politician, who has been the Member of Parliament for North Tyneside since 2010.

Political career[edit]

Glindon was a North Tyneside councillor for 15 years, representing Battle Hill Ward, where she resides. A former civic mayor, she was North Tyneside’s Cabinet Member for Health and Well-Being and Older Person’s Champion.

At the general election in May 2010, she beat Liberal Democrat Councillor David Ord to hold the North Tyneside seat with 50.7% of the votes, despite a 8.7% swing away from Labour.

In parliament, Mary sits on both the EFRA and CLG Select Committees and is Principal Private Secretary to Mary Creagh, Shadow Transport Minister.

Education[edit]

Educated at the Sacred Heart Grammar School, in Newcastle, and Northumbria University, Glindon has worked in the Public, Voluntary and Private Sectors. Prior to becoming an MP, she worked as an Administrative Officer, in the CSA, at Longbenton.
