Mirko Cvetkovic
Mirko Cvetković is a Serbian politician and former Prime Minister of Serbia. He was the first Prime Minister elected under a multi-party system and has served as Minister of Finance on two separate occasions.
Biography[edit]
In the 1980s, he was an external consultant for the World Bank, after which he was employed as an adviser for economic issues at the Mining Institute. In 2005, he became the Special Adviser at CEO Intercom Consulting. After Slobodan Milošević was overthrown, Mirko Cvetković served as Deputy Minister of Economy and Privatisation in the Government of Zoran Djindjić. From 2003 to 2004, he was the Director of the Privatisation Agency after which he became Minister of Finance in the coalition government of Vojislav Koštunica.
He was elected Prime Minister in 2008, and served as such until 2012.
Education[edit]
He graduated from the University of the Belgrade Faculty of Economics, where he also received his MComm (Master’s in Commerce) and PhD and has since published a number of papers and articles on privatization in Serbia and abroad.
Notable work[edit]
In 2008, following the national elections, he was named as the Prime Minister of Serbia by President Boris Tadić. His tenure as Prime Minister received much praise; often described positively as a technocratic democrat by news outlets and European politicians due to his economic expertise and the wide-spread support for his policies.
