Rosy Bindi
Rosy Bindi was born in 1951 and she is an Italian politician and the current president of Antimafia Commission.
Political career[edit]
She was vice-president of Azione Cattolica, a Catholic organisation, from 1984 until 1989. In 1989 she became a member of Christian Democracy Party. She was a candidate during the European elections in 1989 and she became vice-president of the commission for Cooperation and Development and later she became the president of the commission for Petitions and Citizens’ Rights. Later, the Christian Democracy Party dissolved and she joined the Italian People’s Party and she became deputy in 1994. Then, she became a leading figure in the Olive Tree, a centre left party, whose leader was Romani Prodi. In 1996 she was minister of Heath during both Prodi and D’Alema’s governments. In 2001 she was re-elected deputy at the chamber of deputies and she was a member of the Daisy Party that was founded by Romano Prodi. She became a member of the social affairs committee of this Party. In 2006 she became the minister for the family until 2008. Since 2007 she is a leading figure of the Democratic Party, which has replaced all the other left-wing parties. Since 2013 she belongs to the committee of Constitutional Affairs, Affairs of the Presidency of the Council and Home Office and she also is a member of the parliamentary commission of the Phenomena of Mafia and other criminal organisations.
