Rui Duarte de Barros
Rui Duarte de Barros is an economist and politician of Guinea-Bisáu. Starting on May 16, 2012, he began his appointment as the Transitional Prime Minister of Guinea-Bisáu till July, 3, 2014.
Political Career[edit]
Rui Duarte de Barros was the Minister of the Economy and Finance in 2002. He has previously worked in the West African Economic and monetary Union. He is close to Kumba Ialá, the leader of the Party for Social Renewal. He was nominated Transitional Prime Minister by Manuel Serifo Nhamadjo, who was acting President after the April 2012 military coup as part of a transitional arrangement. His appointment took place in the framework of the transition organized by the Economic Community of the States of Western Africa, to celebrate elections in within a year. The deposed elected president, Carlos Gomes Júnior, rejected the new government as he considered it illegitimate.
